The following is a sample of some, but not all, verdicts and settlements obtained on behalf of our clients:

Hayes vs. Children's Hospital, et al.
$17.8 Million Verdict
At 4 months of age, Alexis Hayes underwent elective surgery at Columbus Children's Hospital for removal of a benign cyst from her neck.  Following an adverse reaction to anesthesia, her anesthesiologist failed to stop the procedure and thereafter failed to monitor her vital signs.  Alexis suffered irreversible brain damage as a result of being deprived of adequate oxygen and blood flow for a period 30 minutes.  This is the largest medical malpractice verdict in Franklin County history.

Bates vs. Ohio Valley Medical Center, et al.             
$3.2 Million Verdict
Ty Bates was a 45-year-old husband and father of 3 children when he developed blood clots in his brain.  An MRI showed the presence of the clots but they were not diagnosed by the radiologist who interpreted the MRI.  The failure to diagnose resulted in a massive and fatal hemorrhage in his brain. 

McKibben vs. Baldone, et al.
$1.9 Million Verdict  
Betty McKibben consulted with an ear nose and throat specialist, for treatment of an ear disorder.  The surgeon performed an unnecessary sinus surgery on Mrs. McKibben.  During this surgery, he penetrated through the base of her skull and caused a leak of cerebrospinal fluid.  Mrs. McKibben was forced to undergo a craniotomy to repair the leak.  As a result of the trauma from the brain surgery, she suffered a permanent loss of taste and smell and nerve damage on one side of her face. 

$1,050,000.00 Motor Vehicle Settlement  
Our client was broadsided by a defendant driver who lost control of her vehicle.  Injuries included comminuted fractures of both legs. 

$975,000.00 Worker's Compensation/Uninsured Motorist Insurance Settlement         
While driving in the course of his employment, our client was hit head-on when the defendant went left of center.   As a result of this collision, our client suffered an injury to his spine.  A combination of settlements was reached with the motor vehicle liability carriers and the Bureau of Worker's Compensation.

$750,000.00 Industrial Accident Settlement
A general contractor hired our client to frame a roof on a building under construction.  As our client was installing trusses on the top of the building, the walls of the building collapsed.  Our client fell nearly 20 feet and suffered serious internal injuries, as well as fractures of his pelvis, leg and foot.

Blum vs. Schaffner                                                   
$190,000.00 Settlement Reached After Verdict
Jerry Blum was driving his car when it was hit at an intersection by a driver who had failed to obey a stop sign.  Jerry suffered a contusion of his cervical spine and a torn lateral meniscus (knee injury).  The case proceeded to trial after we rejected an insurance company offer of $13,500.00.  The jury awarded $143,500.00.  After asserting a claim for prejudgment interest, the case settled for $190,000.00.

$230,000.00 Motor Vehicle Accident Settlement
Our client suffered a comminuted fracture of her ankle in a car collision.  She required surgical fixation. 

$925,000.00 Wrongful Death Settlement
This tragic automobile accident occurred when the defendant driver went left of center and collided head-on with our client's husband.  We pursued this claim on behalf of the decedent's surviving spouse and two minor children.

$675,000.00 Wrongful Death Settlement
This wrongful death claim was settled on behalf of the estate of a minor who was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by a drunk driver.  The limits of the drunk driver's insurance policy were recovered along with a separate settlement in a dram shop claim against a tavern owner.

$620,000.00 Wrongful Death Settlement
A passenger was killed after being ejected from a motor vehicle that crossed the centerline on a freeway.  An uninsured motorist claim was pursued on behalf of her estate against the insurance company that insured the rental car involved in the accident.

$1.65 Million Settlement in Child Injury Case
This settlement was concluded on behalf of the guardian of an infant who suffered oxygen deprivation at birth.  The case was bifurcated and settled following trial on the issue of liability.

$500,000.00 Settlement
This case was pursued on behalf of a husband and wife who were broadsided while traveling through an intersection.  Both suffered substantial leg trauma.    

$900,000.00 Medical Malpractice Settlement                     
This medical negligence claim arose out of a physician's prescription error causing our client to suffer a stroke.

$840,000.00 Medical Malpractice Settlement                     
Our client developed an overwhelming infection after an obstetrician perforated her bowel during a hysterectomy and then failed to diagnose the bowel injury.

$300,000.00 Motor Vehicle Accident Settlement
Our client suffered fractures of her legs and cervical spine after being struck head-on by a driver who crossed the centerline.

$500,000.00 Motor Vehicle/Product Liability Settlement
Our client suffered significant leg trauma as a result of a broadside collision.  Her injuries were aggravated by the incursion of the engine into the passenger compartment of the vehicle.  Settlements were reached with the negligent driver and the auto manufacturer.

$200,000.00 Medical Malpractice Settlement
This settlement was reached on behalf of our client who developed a Stage 4 pressure ulcer due to the failure of hospital nursing staff to turn him at appropriate intervals.
